Capere Way

A light touch

Much of the UK’s housing stock suffers from poorly considered extensions and development as was the case with Capere Way, a chalet style bungalow that morphed into a substantial family home over the years.

As the footprint of the property increased, so did the living areas cut off from direct natural light. A strongly regimented elevational design has developed over the years where symmetry trumped optimal visual access to the beautiful gardens and natural light.

By removing two internal walls, a large and light filled kitchen-dining-family room was created with natural light flooding deep into the belly of the property whilst offering delightful views and glimpses to the garden.

The most exciting aspect of this project was the client’s requirement to do only what was absolutely necessary to achieve the desired outcome. The existing kitchen cabinetry was retained, reused and altered as appropriate keeping waste to a minimum. A great example of re-use without compromise!
